Amazon EC2 Capacity Blocks for Machine Learning Now Available in AWS GovCloud Regions

Amazon Web Services has expanded the availability of Amazon EC2 Capacity Blocks for Machine Learning to the AWS GovCloud (US-West) and AWS GovCloud (US-East) Regions. This deployment enables public sector customers and highly regulated entities to secure high-demand GPU instances for specific durations. Organizations can reserve these specialized computing resources up to eight weeks in advance for durations ranging from one to fourteen days. This capacity reservation model is optimized for short-term, compute-intensive machine learning tasks such as model training, fine-tuning, and prototyping. By reserving Capacity Blocks, GovCloud users can guarantee the availability of critical GPU infrastructure without committing to long-term contracts. This model helps administrators manage tight budgets and project timelines while adhering to strict compliance and federal security standards. To utilize EC2 Capacity Blocks in GovCloud environments, system administrators must target the specific capacity reservation ID during their scheduled window. Because billing applies to the entire duration of the booked block regardless of active usage, teams should automate their deployment and teardown processes to maximize efficiency. Workloads will be automatically terminated at the end of the reservation period to free up the capacity.
